As reported earlier by Upstream, the platform was evacuated after hydrocarbons were detected in one of the platform’s concrete legs on Monday.

London-listed Antrim Energy released a statement on Wednesday saying all production and related pipeline infrastructure associated with the Cormorant Alpha platform had been shut-in, including the Causeway and Cormorant East fields.

Production from both fields is processed at the Taqa-operated North Cormorant platform, before being exported to the Cormorant Alpha platform.

“Besides the Causeway and Cormorant East fields, the shutdown has affected a number of other platforms and over twenty other fields in the UK Northern North Sea,” Antrim said.

The Cormorant Alpha platform handles gross output of about 90,000 barrels per day of crude which is transported through the Brent pipeline to the BP-operated Sullom Voe terminal in the Shetland Islands for sale.
