McCulloch will take over from David Heslop, who is retiring from his job as EnQuest’s managing director for the UK continental shelf on 1 April but will stay on as advisor for special projects.

Chief executive Amjad Bseisu said that McCulloch brought a “wealth of technical and management experience in the oil and gas industry and in the UK North Sea in particular” to the company.

Before his current role with OMV in Austria, McCulloch spent 11 years with Britain’s BG Group in a range of posts including serving as the company’s vice president and asset general manager for UK upstream.

Bseisu also paid tribute to Heslop for his contribution to the company’s growth since its formative years, adding Heslop’s new role would see him advise EnQuest on strategic initiatives.

Heslop served in his current job since July 2011, before which he spent 11 years in various UK managerial roles with Talisman Energy.

He joined the industry in 1979 as a wireline engineer with Schlumberger, and also spent 14 years as a manager with Mobil Oil, according to his profile on professional networking site LinkedIn.
