Plans for a oil production company’s new headquarters in Aberdeen have been approved by councillors.

EnQuest aims to set up base in what was the Aberdeen Seafood Park on Palmerston Road.

The eight-story building would provide space for hundreds of staff.

It is hoped the major office development could act as a catalyst for the regeneration of an area of the city traditionally dominated by the fish processing industry.

The plans have been submitted by developers Drum Property Group.

Drum director Graeme Bone said: “EnQuest is a major player in the North Sea and this development will enable the company to bring its current workforce together under one roof and at the same time provides space for expansion.”

It is hoped it can be completed by late 2014.
