EnQuest confirmed it struck first oil for its Alma Galia development.

The fields are located 310km southeast of Aberdeen in the Central North Sea.

Chief executive Amjad Bseisu said: “We are pleased to confirm first oil from Alma/Galia. A further summary will be provided in EnQuest’s next operations update. We will continue to open up additional wells, with full production rates expected from early 2016.”

Enquest owns an operating interest of 65% in the two fields, which is estimated to amount to c.26 MMboe of net 2P reserves.

Alma, which was previously dubbed the Argyll field, was the first commercially produced oil field in the the UKCS, producing oil in the early 90s with relatively low water cut.

Only 30% has so far been recovered from Alma Galia’s 307 million barrels catchment. It’s thought advancements in technology will help recover the millions of stranded reserves still  trapped in the two fields.

Enquest Producer, the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel on site, has a liquid handling capacity of 120,000 barrels per day.
